Vests are designed in various levels of risk to a level 5. There are also waistcoat with trauma plate (steel or ceramic) that are placed in pockets in the zone Center of mass that are designed to stop .308 rifle rounds. The higher the level of multiple trauma, Kevlar is in each Panel in vector (and the higher the cost).
It was found that, if the breasts were compressed 42 centimeters above the heart, it would be fatal. Vests and upper-level III (kevlar only, without trauma plate) stops (5) 230 grain .45 bullets and made only one compression 38 centimetres. Now this might sound like a lifesaver and much more is, but the recovery time from having a depression punched in 38 centimetres of rib cage image depth. Yes, the advantage is that it's just lived through a great fight gun, so the vest worked. The disadvantage is more than likely that a pension medicine.
Then the answer to your specific question is a gun shot directly in a ballistic vest is going bad. The bigger the projectile and the greater the distance, most will hurt. The option of not wear the vest and having the projectile enters the body. I'll take the retrieval time.
I hope this helps and you may find useful
